SOUTH SUMATERS ELECTRICITY SUPPLY PLAN

For those who are interested in developing power plants in South Sumatera, I would like to share the following points with regard to the above subject. Hopefully they would be of use.

Electricity Condition
Electricity system of South Sumatera together with Bengkulu and Jambi has been interconnected through 150 kV transmission network called South Sumatera, Jambi, and Bengkulu (S2JB) system. Almost all of electricity need (96%) of S2JB is supplied by Sumatera Power Distribution and Transmission Center (SPDTC) through 150 kV transmission network in Southern Sumatera Interconnection System (SSIS) and the rest is supplied by isolated system power plants. In 2011 peak utilization in South Sumatera System was 607.67 MW.
Total installed capacity of power plants in South Sumatera up to 2011 was 1,493.54 MW consisting of Steam Power Plants 597 MW, Gas Power Plants 660.85 MW, Steam Gas Power Plants 190 MW, Gas Machine Power Plants 33 MW, and Diesel Power Plants 12.69 MW. Total electricity sale of South Sumatera in 2011 was 2,958 GWh.                          

Energy Potentials
South Sumatera has diversified energy potentials consisting of coal, natural gas, oil, thermal, hydro, and coal bed methane. Coal potentials are estimated to reach 72,879.56 million tonnes. Natural gas potentials are estimated to reach 15.79 TSCF. Oil potentials are estimated to reach 838 MMSTB. Thermal potentials are estimated to reach 1,887 Mwe, scattered in 6 locations namely Tanjungsakti, Rantau Dadap–Segamit, Bukit Lumut Balai, Ulu Danau, Marga Bayur, and Wai Selabung. Hydro potentials are estimated to reach 22 MW, and Coal Bed Methane potentials are estimated to reach 183 TCF 

Electricity Demand Estimate
It is projected that demand for electricity in South Sumatera for the period 2012–2031 shall grow by 14.7% per year so that in 2031 electricity need is expected to reach 42.98 TWh. To fulfill estimated peak utilization growth of averagely around 14.4% per year until 2031, then additional power of averagely around 596 MW per year shall be needed.
