RIAU ELECTRICITY SUPPLY PLAN

For those who are interested in developing power plants in Riau, I would like to share the following points regarding the subject.

Electricity Condition
Around 63% of electricity need of Riau is supplied by Sumatera Power Distribution and Transmission Center (SPDTC) through 150 kV transmission network in Southern Sumatera Interconnection System (SSIS) and the rest is supplied by isolated system power plants in Bengkalis, Selat Panjang, Pkl Kerinci, Sungai Guntung, Kuala Enok, Pulau Kijang/Kota Baru, Seberida, Tembilahan, Rengat, Air Molek, Pasir Pangaraian, Siak S Indrapura, and Bagansiapiapi. In 2011 peak utilization in Riau System was 565.24 MW.

Total installed capacity of power plants in Riau up to 2011 was 529.08 MW consisting of Gas Power Plants 123.30 MW, Steam and Gas Power Plants 8 MW, Diesel Power Plants 283,78 MW, and Hydro Power Plants 114 MW. Total electricity sale for Riau in 2011 reached 2.361 GWh.

Energy Potentials
Riau has diversified energy potentials consisting of oil, natural gas, coal, and thermal. Oil potentials are estimated to reach 3,847.79 MMSTB, natural gas potentials are estimated to reach 9.01 TSCF, coal potentials are estimated to reach 2,400.94 million tonnes, and thermal potentials are estimated to reach 25 MWe in Pasir Pangaraian.

Electricity Demand Estimate
It is projected that demand for electricity in Riau for the period 2012–2031 shall grow by 13.4% per year so that in 2031 electricity need is expected to reach 28.0 TWh. To fulfill estimated peak utilization growth of averagely around 13.0% per year until 2031, then additional power of averagely around 345 MW per year shall be needed.
