RIAU ISLANDS ELECTRICITY SUPPLY PLAN

Electricity Condition
             Electricity system of Riau Islands consists of some isolated systems located in Tanjung Pinang, Tanjung Balai Karimun, Tanjung Uban, Tanjung Batu, Belakang Padang, Ranai (Natuna), and Dabo Singkep/Daek Lingga. In 2011 peak utilization in Riau Islands System was 366.22 MW.
Total installed capacity of power plants in Riau Islands up to 2011 was 775.64 MW, consisting of Steam and Gas Power Plants 250.59 MW, Gas Power Plants 33 MW, Gas Machine Power Plants 83.20 MW, and Diesel Power Plants 408.85 MW. Total electricity sale for Riau Islands in 2011 reached 2,010 GWh.
                         
Energy Potentials
Riau and Riau Islands have diversified energy potentials consisting of coal, natural gas, oil, thermal, and coal bed methane. Coal potentials are estimated to reach 2,400.94 million tonnes, natural gas potentials are estimated to reach 9.01 TSCF, oil potentialas are estimated to reach 3,847.79 MMSTB, thermal potentials are estimated to reach 25 MWe, and coal bed methane potentials are estimated to reach 52.50 TCF.

Electricity Demand Estimate
It is projected that demand for electricity in Riau Islands for the period 2012–2031 shall grow by 10.3% per year so that in 2031 electricity need is expected to reach 14.3 TWh. To fulfill estimated peak utilization growth of averagely around 10.1% per year until 2031, then additional power of averagely around 166 MW per year shall be needed.
