PAPUA ELECTRICITY SUPPLY PLAN

For those who are engaged in power plants development, I would like to share the following points with regard to the above subject. Good luck.

Electricity Condition
Demand for electricity in Papua ia supplied by Papua electricity system consisting of Jayapura, Biak, Sorong, Merauke, Manokwari, and Timika systems. Peak utilization in 2011 reached 159.40 MW. Total installed capacity of power plants in Papua up to 2011 was 246.67 MW consisiting of Diesel Power Plants 242.27 MW and Hydro Power Plants 4.40 MW. In 2011, electricity sale for Papua reached 828 GWh.

Energy Potentials
Papua is estimated to have hydro power potentials for 49 MW, coal for 128.57 million tonnes, thermal for 75 MWe in 3 locations namely Makbon, Ransiki, and Kebar, oil for 94.93 MMSTB, and natural gas for 24.32 TSCF.

Electricity Demand Estimate
It is projected that demand for electricity in Papua for the period 2012-2031 shall grow averagely by  13.6% per year so that in 2031 electricity need is expected to reach 11.2 TWh. To fulfill peak utilization growth of averagely 11.7% per year until 2031, then additional power of averagely 307 MW per year shall be needed.
